We’re excited to have Marion back from France and on this week’s podcast. We always try to provide financial advice in a language you can understand and one thing we’ve noticed is people are looking for ways to save money and trying to find where they can cut back. We noticed a lot of our own clients don’t even realize how much money they unnecessarily spend on assorted fees. We get it, it’s a challenge to look at every statement and look at where your money is going – but it pays to do it. Fees sneak up on you, especially since so many of us are signing up for subscription programs nowadays or signing up for a free trial and then forgetting to cancel.
Tune in to this week’s episode of Dollars & Sense as Marc and Marion discuss why it’s so easy to spend hundreds of dollars unnecessarily each month in fees and how you can avoid it in a language you can understand.

06-01-2023 Dollars & Sense, Savings Rates in America Have Grown Tremendously
Thursday Jun 01, 2023
Thursday Jun 01, 2023
The weather is warming up in Massachusetts, the Celtics are unfortunately out of the playoffs after Game 7, and die-hard Red Sox fans are rooting for some wins. We’re sure you’re just as happy as we are that the debt ceiling situation is no longer a concern. Not that we were concerned, but it seems that we’re coming closer to an agreement which means we can focus on what really matters – things that we can control in our own financial lives.
More and more people are saving up cash in the bank – why is that? Are they scared to invest? Christian feels it happens at a few points in people’s lives, such as getting a big promotion or when your kids leave the house and are (finally) self-sufficient.
Tune in to this week’s episode of Dollars & Sense as Marc and Christian discuss why so many more people are saving their cash in the bank in a language you can understand.

05-25-2023 Dollars & Sense, What Keeps You Up at Night?
Thursday May 25, 2023
Thursday May 25, 2023
Tick tock...the debt ceiling deadline (June 1st) is right around the corner. They like to keep us on pins and needles until the very last minute but analysts and those in the know feel they will resolve it. After all, Joe Biden and Kevin McCarthy will want a positive outcome so they have an opportunity to be re-elected.
We know the debt ceiling conversation keeps some people up at night. We don’t think it should, but we do understand that a lot of people worry about a lot of different things – especially things that are out of their control. Running out of money, family issues, and health are some of the things that keep our clients up at night. Kids will be heading off to college in the fall and the financial responsibility weighs heavy on many parents. The good news? You CAN control the outcome on a lot of these items by having conversations now and putting a plan into place that works for you and your family.
Tune in to this week’s episode of Dollars & Sense as Marc and Marion discuss the approaching debt ceiling deadline and how you can stay in control of things that keep you up at night in a language you can understand.

5-18-2023 Dollars & Sense, Finding a Financial Advisor That Makes Sense for You
Thursday May 18, 2023
Thursday May 18, 2023
The debt ceiling conversation has been hot and heavy this week. The only thing different this time around is how close will we get to midnight the night of the deadline before they strike a deal. There's been an intensified use of sensationalism with the media. Folks, keep in mind that when you watch the news and scroll through your social media feeds that everybody now is in the entertainment business and not in the information and news business.
In a book that I wrote, Retiring for the Genius, I talk about finding an advisor that makes sense for you. Find an advisor who is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), who acts as a fiduciary by placing your best interest first, and who takes the times to understand what your entire financial life looks like and what your goals are.
Tune in to this week’s episode of Dollars & Sense as Marc and Marion discuss the debt ceiling deadline going to the bottom of the ninth and the importance of finding a financial advisor that makes sense for you in a language you can understand.

We also chat about the importance of taking control of your finances today and to avoid being influenced by the way others spend their money. Sounds easy, right?
Tune in to this week’s episode of Dollars & Sense as Marc and Marion discuss how your opinions influence your decision making, why you should avoid keeping up with the Joneses, and taking control of your finances in a language you can understand.

05-04-2023 Dollars & Sense, What’s Up with the Debt Ceiling Babble?
Thursday May 04, 2023
Thursday May 04, 2023
We’ve made it to May! The tulips are in bloom, pool covers are starting to come off, and we all have a beautiful New England summer to look forward to. The weather isn’t the only thing heating up. One of the hot topics this week is the way our government has been spending money. The U.S. could reach its debt ceiling by June 1st. The term “debt ceiling” is thrown around quite a bit, but what does it really mean and how does this affect you?
Tune in to this week’s episode of Dollars & Sense as Marc and Marion discuss our ever-evolving industry, government spending, and the debt ceiling in a language you can understand.

04-27-2023 Dollars & Sense, When is the Right Time to Invest?
Wednesday Apr 26, 2023
Wednesday Apr 26, 2023
Spring has finally arrived, the Celtics and the Bruins are doing great in the playoffs, and the curtains are about to open at North Shore Music Theatre! The stock market seems to have stabilized a little bit and isn’t quite as volatile as it was last year.
One of the big questions that we keep getting asked all the time is when is the right time to invest? Is this the right time, was it last year, is 2026 the right time, did we miss the right time? One of the most interesting things is looking back on the performance of our clients’ accounts over the last three, five, ten, fifteen, and even twenty years, and comparing the historical performance reports data. When you stretch it out over longer term horizons, the average number is falling right in the range that we had hoped for.
Tune in to this week’s episode of Dollars & Sense as Marc and Marion discuss timing the market and why long-term investing is favorable in a language you can understand.

With tax season officially over (phew!), we wanted to shed some light on some of the most commonly asked tax questions we received this past week. We also dive into an uncomfortable topic that many families are faced with. A recent study by Bankrate.com came out this week that showed 68% of retirees have made a financial sacrifice to help their adult children with money. This is a reality for so many of our clients and listeners. Given the choice to cut back on your retirement lifestyle so that your children could have a better financial life, would you do it? Or do you feel that you should live your retirement to the fullest and whatever money is left over will go to your kids?
Tune in to this week’s episode of Dollars & Sense as Marc and Marion discuss some of the most commonly asked questions from taxpayers and how more and more retirees are supporting their adult children in a language you can understand.

04-13-2023 Dollars & Sense, Announcement on Inflation
Thursday Apr 13, 2023
Thursday Apr 13, 2023
This week we chat about the announcement on inflation. We’re seeing much better numbers coming in now. We’ve all seen inflation declining a little bit and we’ve also seen a lot of prices stabilize. Yes, a lot of the foods we buy cost more than last year, but they haven’t continued to go up. The good news is the cost of eggs are down 11% - finally!
Tune in to this week’s episode of Dollars & Sense as Marc and Marion discuss inflation and where the numbers are today in a language you can understand.

4-6-2023 Dollars & Sense, U.S. Government Saves SVB and Time’s Ticking to Pay Uncle Sam
Wednesday Apr 05, 2023
Wednesday Apr 05, 2023
All the activity around the bank crisis has very much calmed down. The Treasury stepped in pretty quickly to help the banks that were failing and it seems as if people aren’t as worried today. If you think back and ask how come Silicon Valley Bank failed, their problem is they bought Treasury Bonds, which are fully guaranteed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. government.
We’re also just a week and a half away before Uncle Sam starts looking for your tax money. Tune in as we discuss expectations and how to manage your expectations in a language you can understand.
Listen to what Marc and Marion have to say in this week’s episode of Dollars & Sense to learn more.
